Former West Indies Women’s Cricket Captain to be Honored in New York

Atlantis Cricket Club – NY to honor Stephanie Power

New York – October 10, 2012: Atlantis Cricket Club – NY will bestow honorary membership on Trinidadian-born Stephanie Judith Power, the former West Indies women’s cricket captain and wicketkeeper, and now assistant cricket coach of the West Indies women’s team. The award ceremony will be a part of the club’s annual awards dinner scheduled for November 3, 2012 in New York City.

Ms. Power played one Test and 34 ODIs for the West Indies women between 1993 and 2005 including three Women’s Cricket World Cup stints, before being appointed assistant coach to Sherwin Campbell for the West Indies women’s squad.

Atlantis has honored several former Test cricketers in the past 10 years, including Clive Lloyd, Andy Roberts, Alvin Kallicharran, Lance Gibbs, Roger Harper, Curtly Ambrose, Lawrence Rowe, Basil Butcher, Joe Solomon, Joel Garner, Clayton Lambert, and most recently Gus Logie. However, Ms. Power will be the first woman so honored by the 46 year-old New York based club.

Atlantis President Steve Welcome, said “We are honored that Ms. Power has accepted our invitation to become an honorary member of Atlantis, but more than anything else, we firmly believe that she is deserving of this and many other accolades for her contributions to women’s cricket in the Caribbean and the USA.”

Ms. Power, a Certified Level II Cricket Coach and Secondary School teacher, has played an integral role in US cricket development over the past three years, conducting coaching clinics in the New York metropolitan area for women cricketers and coaching sessions across the USA for cricket coaches seeking their Level I certification.
