MMZ Top LIUCC by Three Wickets In EACA

by Dyon Ravello

Meten Merg Zorg traveled to Brentwood where they meet home side Long Island United. LIUCC won the toss and elected to take first strike. Seamer Rocky Kowchai was on the ball early as he removed both openers, Sajeed Khan caught at mid wicket and U Ali bowled. Kowchai would go on to complete an effective and economical spell as he cramped the opponents finishing with figures of 8-1-26-2. Rahynul Islam  sharing the new ball with Kowchai took care of the dangerous Waqas Shah. At the other end Asim Khan (33) played his shotsto keep his side in the match as he lost Anwer Khan run out. Qasim Dastgir (29) played in the same vein as Asim, as Asim was the fifth man out leg before to Hemendra Ramdhiall. Selwyn Mohan built a partnership with Dastgir, but the Dastgir was coaxed by a flighted delivery from Azurdeen Mohammed to be caught at point. There was no late innings flourish for United as Islam returned to finish with 2/30 and off spinner Travis Ross cleaned up the tail with 2/5, LIUCC 174 all out in 38.1 overs.

Travis Ross scored 65 to lead MMZ over LIUCC

Mohammed started aggressively for MMZ taking the attack to the LIUCC attack. Fellow opener Ken Nandkumar started quietly by was not allowed to play his game as Anwer Khan found a gap breaching the gate to bowl Nandkumar. Anwer followed up with the wicket of Deonath Baksh leg before first ball. Things began to look precarious when national batsman Mohammed was leg before to Dastgir for 17. Ross was joined by anchorman Saud Hussain as the pair set about the repair work. Ross pouncing on the bowling to pick up the boundaries as well as some quick running between the wickets to take advantage of the singles. At the drinks break MMZ 109 from 15 overs, needing another 66 from 25 over at just 2.64 runs per over.

Hussain was undone by one that popped from LIUCC captain Istihaque Khan, caught at cover. Ross up the ante as he was joined by national under 19 batsman Amarnauth Persaud. The pair continued the quick running between the wickets putting pressure on the LIU fielders. Ross’ appetite for grand stroke play saw him raise his half century as his side closed in on the target. Both Ross and Persaud both fell caught with less than 20 runs needed. As if that was not sufficient MMZ wicketkeeper batsman Ajaz Asgarally was leg before to Istihaque. Kowchai and Ramdhiall ensured that a win would be recorded as MMZ completed the victory in 22.1 overs. Anwer 2/34 and Istihaque 3/21 the only bowlers to causing any concern for the MMZ line up as Travis Ross completed an all-round match winning performance. Ross with travel to Canada as captain of a select under 17 team to participate in an invitational tournament.
