Wanderer sink Queensbury, As Jazeeb’s Ton leads Travel Treat

By Dyon Ravello

Wanderers shocked Queensbury by bowling out the cellar side for 24 . Wanderers completed a nine win as Queensbury recorded a Brooklyn Cricket League low. Panthers continued their winning ways with two wins over Cavaliers and Middlesex respectively. Panthers scored 227/7 on the back of 63 by all rounder Salman Ahmed. Cavaliers fell short scoring 185 with only former National batsman Albert Texiera showing any resistance with 61.

Panthers again piled on the runs on Sunday scoring 233/9 in 33 overs against Middlesex. Shahzad with his usual “Gayle-Pollard” like stroke play to top score with 66 for the league leaders. Former American youth pacer Dominic Audain led the attack with 4/25. Middlesex were bowled for 203 to lose by 30 runs with 15 balls to spare. Former Sheffield all rounder Hugo D’oliviera played a cameo for 46,  N. Adil 4/16 with his left arm fast medium bowling took the wind out of the sails for Middlesex.

Diplomats scored 171 with Sheffield returning to winning ways after two embarrassing defeats, to complete an eight wicket win as Glen Hall scored his third hundred of the season. Middlesex despite their defeat to Panthers on Sunday got the better of resurgent Imperial. Middlesex 228/5 with Mark Audain 51 and Andre Kirton 40. Imperial scored a paltry 68 in reply as M. Audain and Kirton both completed all round performance with figures of 4/13 and 3/ 16 respectively.

In other matches on Sunday, Imperial rebounded to defeat Queensbury by five wickets. Queensbury fearing much better scoring 160 with Imperial getting to 163/5. Cavaliers brought Wanderers back down to earth as they scored 141. Wanderers made a hash of  a relatively low score as they could only muster 101 to lose by 40 runs, far from their record breaking performance a day earlier.

Jazeeb Tariq’s Ton

Jazeeb Tariq scored his first century in Brooklyn League

Sheffields looking to consolidate Saturday’s victory with another against Travel Treat were upstaged as NYPD all rounder, Jazeeb Tariq scored his first hundred. Travel Treat batting first had openers J. Tariq and captain Junaid  Mirza amass 145 for the first wicket. Mirza scoring 64 and Jazeeb with 110. Jazeeb with his effervescent talent continuously on display at the youth level, paying great dividend in open play. Travel Treat setting Sheffield a target of 258 to win. I was always going to be a daunting proposition as Sheffield fell 30 runs short.

Panthers are certain of a place in the BCL semifinals with Travel Treat and Middlesex in promising positions. The battle seems likely to go to the final round with Imperial, Sheffield and Cavaliers having all to play for. Rooted are Diplomats, Wanderers and Queensbury who will continue to play for pride and could even pull off some spoilers, apart from looking forward to 35 over and T20 knockout play.
