EACA Round 12: Four Eliminated in  Division I

Amsterdam was consistent with the Bat and Ball for Atlantis on the opening day of Play in the EACA 2012 T20 Blitz

Alex Amsterdam 104 for Atlantis was not enough, as they were nipped by Big Apple

Round 12 was completed on, July 28th with a series of decisive results. Amarnauth Persaud’s 103 not out lifted Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) to a morale boosted victory which effectively ended Galaxy’s Power 40 campaign. MMZ posted 228/3, with captain Azurdeen Mohammed 43 and Trevis Ross 41 supporting Persaud. Galaxy came up short in their chase as they were bowled out for 135 in 34.2 overs. Yudesh Bissnauth 48 and Rafeek Nazeer were the most noteworthy contributions. Saumil Gandhi3/33, Saud Hussain 2/2, Mohammed 2/12 and Rocky Kowchai 2/13 shared the wickets to complete a 93 run win.

In the match of the week, a ten pointer if you will, Atlantis hosted Big Apple. Batting first the host were led by Alex Amsterdam 104 and Ron Andrews 54. for Big Apple, Alexandrino Kirton 3/37 and skipped Zaheer Saffie 2/27 were the pick of the bowlers. Set a competitive 260 to win at 6.50 runs per over Big Apple relied on the experience of former West Indian batsman Ryan Ramdeen 53. Losing wickets at a frequent rate, Big Apple maintained a fluent tempo well above the required rate. A rearguard innings of 67 not out by Telston Johnson completed a jail breaking one wicket win with 52 balls to spare. Greg Robinson 3/54 and Keon Lake 3/64 accounted for most of the inroads but it was not enough in the end.

American Cricket Society (ACS) earned five vital points as they eliminated Hillside Sports. Hillside were routed for 152 in 33 overs, Nedesh  Basdeo 62 held off the persistent ACS attack. For ACS the work load was shared, with Aun Merchant 2/17, Terry Hastoo 2/20, Zamin Amin 2/22 and Saheed Amin 2/54. Hillside did cause some concern as they scalped four wickets, but ACS were always in the driver seat as they completed victory in 24 overs.

Richmond Hill remained faultless as Roderick Lovell’s 5/41 set the tempo against Arsenal.  Robin Dass 75 and Shayed Zaman 38 held Arsenal together as they posted 188 in 36.1 overs. Shameer Sadloo 3/40 and Kumar Nandalall 2/19 played perfect supporting roles to Lovell. Sudesh Dhaniram stroked his third century of the season, creating acreage between him and the number batsman in the EACA Power 40. Dhaniram’s unbeaten 103 and Wazid Ward 37 not out completed an impressive eight wicket victory as Richmond Hill booked a semifinal berth.

Liberty’s win of Camelot was more of an academic event as both sides are unable to amass sufficient points to challenge for a semifinal berth. For the bottom four they will try to play the role of spoilers as Division I draws to the business end. Arsenal stand with an outside chance at qualification with Atlantis positioned iwth the best chance to displace one of MMZ, Big Apple and ACS.
