Terrence ‘Coolie Bai’ Madramootoo turned in a spirited all round performance to power Liberty Sports Club past Galaxy Cricket Club and into the Eastern American Cricket Assocation T20 Blitz Semifinals. Madramootoo picked up 2 for 21 and returned to hit four booming sixes in an unbeaten 31 to usher home the victory.
Vijendra Singh set the tone for Liberty SC’s bowling attack at Bay Park after Galaxy CC won the toss and chose to bat first. Running into the wind Singh bowled with pace and pinpoint accuracy to turn in 4 overs, 1 maiden, 1 wicket for 15 runs. The Galaxy batsmen found runs difficult to come by as the LSC bowlers held a disciplined line and length on the slow Bay Park outfield.
Singh was well supported by Madramootoo 2 for 21, Marlon Persaud 1 for 26, Andy Harricharran 1 for 8 and Imtiaz Hassan none for 20. Rafeek Nazeer 27 & Metray Balgobin 23 were the top scorers for Galaxy in their final score of 113 for 5 off the allotted 20 overs.
Liberty SC went about the chase sluggishly with the exception of Thakur Singh who spanked a quick-fire 20 at the top which included two fours and a six. His partner Harricharran made 24 during his stay at the wicket. Madramootoo joined the chase with LSC needing a run a ball 50 to close off a well-earned victory. The fall of two quick wickets added some drama to the chase but Madramootoo held his nerve. The power hitter spanked a six in the 14th over, over midwicket and followed that up with 3 more towering sixes off of Sunesh Wazid in the 16th over. The chase was sealed with Imtiaz Hassan hitting back-to-back fours in the 17th over and then a single to finish it off.
Yudesh Bissnauth returned figures of 2 for 13 off 4 overs to be the pick of the Galaxy CC bowlers. Hassan finished on 12 not out.
The young Liberty SC squad will take on the experienced Everest/ACS in the T20Blitz Semi-Final this Sunday, October 6th at the popular Baisley Cage at 1 PM.
