PSAL Round Up Week 1-2

Weeks 1 and 2 of the New York City, Public School Athletic League (PSAL), had been marred by torrential spring showers postponing a host of matches. Few schools were able to shake the winter chills off with Franklin K. Lane and Newcomers taking the early initiative with two win each from as many matches. US Under-19 fast bowler Keifer Phill, demonstrated his ability with the bat as he scored the only half-century to date (4/11/2014) 62.

Other notable performers were Naimul Islam who picked up five wickets for Thomas Edison with the best bowling figures this term with 5/6. MD Ariful Muyin scored 45 and took 2/8 to lead Dewitt Clinton over Stuyvesant with resounding 104 run victory. Asmar Khan provided support wih 21 and 3/3. Kurt Sankar nabbed 4/13 to lift Franklin K. Lane over Brooklyn Tech. in a low scoring encounter. Samad Hussain 3/13 and Zaheer Ahmad 3/12 completed the rout as Brooklyn Tech. could only manage 48.

Mohammed Hossin restricted William C. Bryant with 4/9 although Sayadur Raihan 45 had helped his side to a competitive total of 133/9. MD Shafat Choudhury 34* and Refat Islam 33* remained unbeaten to see Newcomers home with just four deliveries to spare, see full match report:  https://vellocricket.net/2014/04/05/newcomer-open-psal-with-brace-over-bryant/. MD Muhtash Fuhad claimed 4/6 and scored 24 as Jamaica won by seven wickets over John Bowne, Jason Hall scored 21 for the Flushing unit as Tanbir Hussein 38 laid a winning foundation for the Jamaicans (NY).

For the past 5 years we here, those who are engaged in PSAL, have been doing our best with the youngsters to bring to cricket fans a brand of cricket that befits the game.
