A team of West Indies’ Cricket Legends, spearheaded by the legendary Sir Garfield Sobers, will be heading to New York to attend a star-studded dinner reception and to play two T20 matches. Some of the other high-profile names include, Deryck Murray, Gus Logie and Daren Ganga along with many others. There is already a rush for banquet tickets to meet and mingle with the legends at the prestigious Antun’s Banquet Hall on Springfield Blvd. in Queens. This event will take place on Friday, July 31, and the action gets underway at 9.00 PM.
On August 1st, it will be “Cricket, Lovely Cricket”, as the Legends take on a New York all-Star XI in the first of two T20 matches on Saturday ans a second on Sunday, August 2. Former West Indies great, Gordon Greenidge is spearheading the effort to bring the Legends to New York. Promoter, Pooran Ramnanan and Tournament Manager, Orville Hall, are working closely with a New York Organizing Committee, led by Former United Nations Security Adviser, Berold Hinds, to put all the preparations in place. When asked about this project, Promoter, Ramnanan said “New York has always been the “Hotbed” for cricket in the United States, and, after a very successful tournament in Florida in January, I’ve decided to reach out to the North East so that they could get a flavor of what the folks in Florida received just four months ago”. Ramnanan went on the say, “I have a great group of guys working with me, including Mr. Gordon Greenidge, who is handling the enlistment of the legends, Mr. Orville Hall as tournament Manager, who is coordinating all the logistics, and a New York group, led by Berold Hinds, who knows the cricket landscape in the Tri-State very well, and have started to get the message out in a variety of locations.”
Ramnanan said that he is asking the various cricket leagues in the Tri-State area to suspend their schedules for this weekend, so that the members and fans can come out and enjoy a fabulous weekend of cricket. The New York Organizing Committee is providing an incentive to all the leagues who are interested in selling Banquet and Game-Day tickets.
