Hasib, Hillcrest End John Adams’ Unbeaten Run

Dewitt Clinton and Aviation, Only Two Prefect Records Left In PSAL

by Dyon Ravello,

photo(1)

Hillcrest’s Hasib Imrul scalped 4 wickets as John Adams’ seven match unbeaten run came to an end

Spring season continued in the Public School’s Athletic League Cricket with unbeaten John Adams hosting rivals Hillcrest. Visitors Hillcrest won the toss and inserted the Spartans to take first strike. The encounter began with much intensity as the Spartan openers pressed quick singles. Hillcrest were also playing to the crescendo as Spartans lost their first wicket via the run out route after just six (6) deliveries.

There was a tempered pace to the proceeding with neither the batting side of the fielding looking to grasp a firm initiative. Skipper Jason Rodney struck, as Mervin Heywood was caught at Mid-off by Syed Farkruzzaman. Deryck Narine looked to lead his side as he had done this season as he struck four boundaries. Narine looked fluent aiming for a possible thrid century on the season. Hasib Imrul scalped the Spartan captain as he let one through the gates, Narine (27) bowled.

It was one-way traffic from there on as John Adams folded for a paltry 56 in 14.1 overs. Hasib Imrul leading Hillcrest with four wickets and Farkruzzaman two.

John Adams were not daunted as they display a gallant effort in attempting to keep their flawless record intact. Skipper Narine started with a maiden off the first over. Hillcrest had consolidated their innings as they contended with the swing of Heywood and the pinpoint accuracy of Tazul Uddin and Randy Permaul. Even with the score at 18/2 after nine (9) over, Nicholas Harriepersaud and Abul Juwel made their partnership count as the fended off all Spartan attempts to claim victory with 13 balls to spare. A low scoring encounter with the intensity and passion of a cup final with Hillcrest prevailing by eight (8) wickets

Shahid 7fer Wrecks Centurions

Arsenal seek to maintain 2013 momentum

by Dyon Ravello

Arsenal's Rehan Shahid spun 7-3-12-7 to wreck NY Centurions

Arsenal’s Rehan Shahid spun 7-3-12-7 to wreck NY Centurions

The 2014 Eastern American Cricket Association season opened with much fanfare across various venues from Van Cortland in the Bronx, Queens and even Long Island. At Flushing Meadow Park NY Centurions hosted Arsenal CC.

Initially the match was delayed by 40 minutes due to another match which had started earlier. Arsenal won the toss inserting NY Centurions. A steady start between opening Chris Ragunauth and former USA youth player Trevor Singh saw NY Centurions claiming the initial proceedings. Gazi Rehman got one to swing with Singh playing down the wrong line, bowled for 13, 26/1.

NY Centurions responded well with Deoraj Sewnanan combining with Ragunauth as the pair added a vital 42 runs for the second wicket. Ragunauth who had benefited from a chance earlier was not as fortunate the second time of asking as Moon Chowdhury scooped up a one-handed spectacular to make amends for spilling the dolly. Rehan Shahid one (1) Ragunauth gone for 24, 68/2.

With the score at 84/2 after 10 overs the Centurions seemed to be cruising. Enter Shahid, a leg spinner not Afridi, but Rehan Shahid. Sewnanan bowled for 12, 84/3 (10.1). The very next delivery Shaquille Williams was caught and bowled, Shahid on a hattrick 84/4. Carlton Barker did survive the hattrick ball and then two more only, to hold out to Chowdhury 84/5 after 11 over.

It was all pedestrian pace from there on as NY Centurions showed no resolve. Skipper Vicky Persaud tried to hold his side together but it was asking too much of the youthful lower order. Shahid scalped three more as NY Centurions succumbed to 121 all out off 21.2 overs.

Carlos Bachu drew first blood as he bowled Shehzad Iqbal. Arsenal Skipper Mustafa Moiz and veteran Abid Hamdani combined to consolidate the top order. NY Centurions felt a glimmer of hope when S. Williams bowled Moiz (22) with his first delivery. William would be disappointed as two catches went down off his bowling typically sealed the Centurions’ faith.

Williams (2/25) bowled Hasib Ahmed with Hamdani steady at the end. Bachu (2/28) returned to trap Hamdani leg before for 31. With Barker notching a scalp of his own bowling Himalay Patel. Chowdhury and Rehman made light work of what was left of the chase as Arsenal opened the season with a convincing five wicket win with 14.4 overs to spare.

Eastside Warriors edge Enmore

In other scores Eastside Warriors edged Enmore by three (3) runs. Eastside scored 215 with Mahendra Seeram 2/21. Enmore left it late, Safraz Alli 68 and Mark Gomes 27. Eastside held their nerve to open the season with a narrow victory.

Allrounder Carmichael Leads Liberty SC Over Galaxy

Liberty SC Intent On Establishing Early Momentum
by Liberty SC Media
Trinson Carmichael led Liberty on the opening day of EACA 2014 Season with 3 for 13 and a blistering knock of 69

Trinson Carmichael led Liberty SC on the opening day of EACA 2014 Season with 3 for 18 and a blistering knock of 69

Trinson Carmicheal picked up 3 for 18 off 8 overs then returned to blast a sizzling 69 to boost Liberty Sports Club to a massive 6 wicket win over Galaxy Cricket Club. Batting first Galaxy posted 193 for 9 off 40 overs after being sent in to bat. Liberty SC chased the target at the Baisley Cage with an astounding15.2 overs to spare.

On a damp and heavy Cage outfield, the host team Liberty SC won the toss and asked Galaxy CC to take first strike on the opening day of the 2014 Eastern American Cricket Association  season. Imtiaz Hassan knocked over hard hitting Krishna Harricharran early in the inning forcing the young duo of Randal Wilson and Rafeek Nazeer to rebuild. The pair started solidly but failed to carry on their partnership when Hassan struck once again to remove Nazeer, off a sharp stumping by gloveman, Francis Mendonca.

Carmicheal and Leon Mohabir were introduced into the attack shortly after and the runs flow was strangled. The duo accounted for four (4) wickets while only allowing 37 runs off their combined 16 overs. Carmichael accounted for three (3) scalps while Mohabir picked up Randal Wilson who scored 37.

Skipper, Metray Balgobin responded resolutely as he held together the lower order to boost Galaxy to a competitive total of 193 for 9. Balgobin struck a well composed 46 batting at number eight. Dhaniram Seepersaud provided valuable support to his skipper with 29.

The GMA Enterprise Sponsored, Liberty SC’s response suffered an early blow when Dilly Khillawan was run out early for 1. Carmichael joined Mendonca at the crease and the pair immediately took the attack to the Galaxy bowling line up. Mendonca carved four boundaries in a steady knock of 34. It was Carmichael who punished the Galaxy bowlers. The left-hander struck three (3) fours and six (6) towering sixes as he raced to his half century. It took a reflex catch from Nazeer to remove Carmichael who looked well set for a Liberty SC debut century.

LSC BBQ 14Andy Harricharan and Terrence Madramootoo joined in the chase with Harricharan hoicking three (3) sixes and a boundary to finish not out on 35. Madramootoo, looking to finish things off swiftly, as he treated Randal Wilson with disdain taking 22 off an over (1×4 & 3×6’s) before being bowed for 30. Imtiaz Hassan finished off the chase with a bang hitting a massive six (6) off the first ball he faced in the 25th over.

The Blue Nation will have the next two weeks off. The Sports Club will host their 5th annual fundraising Barbeque on Saturday, May 17th. The captain, Danesh Deonarin and team would like to extend a warm invite to the entire New York cricketing public to the event which will be held at the corner of 110st & 111 Ave in South Ozone Park starting 12 PM.

WICB, USACA Announce Partnership

USACA Move To Improve American Cricket Standard

windiesSt John’s, Antigua – In a move designed to open up more high performance cricket opportunities for United States players, and accelerate cricket development in the USA, the West Indies Cricket Board and USACA today announced a long term joint partnership.

As part of the partnership, a member of the WICB Board of Directors will sit on the USACA board. This will facilitate, among other things, the exchange of higher performing players from USACA member leagues and clubs into WICB development programs. In addition, USACA’s new Chief Executive Officer will have a position on the WICB’s Chief Executive Committee to help develop stronger economic best practices going forward for the US market.

WICB President Mr. Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron commented: “This is the right way for us to help develop the US market. We are going to be engaged on a day-to-day basis on the three core pillars for development. The closeness of a full member country to the US means we can easily help develop pinnacle performance in US players as well as build a stronger base for economic development hand-in-hand with USACA.”

“We will rapidly build plans and open up infrastructure for bringing top US players into the West Indian development system, and we are supporting the finalization of the current USACA governance changes,” Cameron added.

USACAGladstone Dainty, USACA President noted, “having the opportunity to work closely with another full member country offers exciting opportunities for US players looking to sharpen skills and experiences with world-class cricketers.  The ongoing sharing of best practices on sponsorships, high performance development and governance with the WICB gives USACA access to a very close geographic partner that can help drive the development of the sport in the US on a day to day basis.”

“The WICB will also, via their board member on the USACA board, support the governance change program that the USACA board is currently managing. This is a long-term strategy to help build the three foundations for a highly successful US cricketing market: high performance development, models for economic growth and modern day governance.”

John Thickett the USACA Treasurer said, that it is, “very exciting that the WICB is dedicating the time and resources to working with us on these three pillars. Both regions and leagues preparing for the national championships in Indianapolis, and youth players looking for development opportunities in their futures should see this as a very beneficial long term development.”
