Deonarain, Persaud, Madramootoo Lift Liberty SC to 2-0

EACA Blitz T20 2013

Skipper Danesh Deonarain stroked a well composed half century while Hemchandarbose Persaud blazed 42 to help Liberty Sports Club amass 189 for 7 off 20 overs when they batted first against New York Centurions in their Eastern American Cricket Association T20 Blitz fixture. Terrence Madramootoo then returned to pick up 3 wickets for 9 runs to limit the chase to only 123.

Deonarain won the toss and elected to bat on a well manicured Bay Park under bright sunshine. Liberty lost opener Andy Harricharran early but staged a decent recovery with Deonarain joining Dilly Khilawan at the crease. The score moved along and LSC would lose Khilawan, Madramootoo and Imtiaz Hassan on the way to 76 for 4 after 12 overs.  Needing to up the scoring rate Deonarain stepped up the tempo as he started to look to get more boundaries.

Altaf Habibulla played a crucial role in the 30 runs partnership in rotating the strike and pushing to convert the extra runs between the wickets. Deonarain departed with the score on 103 but there was no relief for NY Centurion when H. Persaud stepped in and turned it up from ball one. The hard hitting right-hander struck two 6’s and four 4’s in his innings of 42 and changed what was expected to be a 140 total to 189.

Marlon Persaud played a handsome hand in the inning striking 2 sixes in his 20. Troy Doodnauth picked up 2 for 43 off 4 overs for NY Centurion.

The NY Centurion inning never gained momentum; they lost one of their openers in the very first over and continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Trevor Singh, who was the other opener, held his end till the 18th over but only managed 47. Terrence Maramootoo picked up three wickets with his off spinners while Marlon Persaud bowled economically to pick up 1 for 18 off his 4 overs. Andy Harricharran and Vijendra Singh also bowled economically and picked up a wicket each.

The victory means LSC remains undefeated in their Zone with two crucial matches left against Richmond Hill CC and Hillside SC respectively.

In their first T20Blitz encounter Andy Harricharran (49), Dilly Khilawan (37), Imtiaz Hassan (25) & Deonarain (23) led the scoring to get LSC to 175 at Heckshire State Park against Victory CC.

Hassan returned to pick up two wickets along with Vijendra Singh while Harricharran, Marlon Persaud & Habibulla picked up one each to bowling out VCC for 106.

#BlueNation also staged a commanding performance in a friendly encounter against Staten Island Cricket Club over the Labor Day Weekend. Allowing SICC to bat first the home team posted 200 runs all out in the 30 over affair. Terrence Madramootoo picked up Five wickets while Altaaf Habibulla accounted for three of his own.

Imtiaz Hassan & Marlon Persaud scored half centuries to ensure the boys in blue successfully chased the target with 5 overs to spare.

Richmond Hill, Big Apple Face Off For EACA Championship

EACA Division I Power40 Final at the Cage & T20 Schedule Sept 8. 2013
Sudesh Dhaniram 773 runs has crafted Richmond Hill's course with only Big Apple Standing in the way of glory

Sudesh Dhaniram 773 runs has crafted Richmond Hill’s course with only Big Apple Standing in the way of glory

The much anticipated Eastern American Cricket Association Power40 league final will be contested at he popular Baisley Cage this Sunday, September 8th. Powerhouses Richmond Hill Cricket Club and Big Apple Cricket Club will clash to claim the big prize in the EACA match of the summer. The game which commences at 12 PM, is expected to draw a large crowd as the EACA closes off it’s 40 over stage of the 2013 Season.

Both teams enjoyed a healthy run up to the finals. RHCC was clinical in their preliminary games, remaining undefeated to this stage. Baring one rained out match. RHCC gained the full allotment of points for the season and completed clinical victories over their opponents all the way into the semi-final where they crushed Atlantis CC by 6 wickets.
The mercurial BACC has gone through the highs and lows of the tournament but still managed to maintain the momentum need to reach the final. They lost to the number 12 ranked NY Centurion CC during the Zone stage but recovered to only be beaten by Everest/ACS & RHCC during the remainder of the tournament. In their semi-final match, one week after narrowly losing to defending champions ACS, BACC completed a resounding 100 runs victory to storm into the finals, to oust ACS.
Both teams sport a star studded line up with veteran and youth players who have played cricket at various levels for Guyana, USA and other recognized cricketing territories. RHCC will rely on its veteran line up which should includes; Sudesh Dhaniram, Debo Shankar, brothers Shameer & Zaheer Sadloo, Ramphal Bactowar, Deryk McDonald, Wahid Ward, Kumar Nandallal & Kevin Darlington among others. The more youthful BACC should feature; Zaheer Saffie, Richard Ramdeen, Telston Johnson, Ramano Dean, Clain Williams, Andre Kirton, Shawn Thmopson as part of their line up.
All eyes will be on veteran, Sudesh Dhaniram, who has no doubt been the mastermind of the RHCC dominance having scored a mammoth 773 runs in the season, highlighted by double hundred in the round robin stage and an unbeaten 113 in he semi-final. Kumar Nandallal, who will be coming up against his former club mates, has led the wickets column for RHCC and the league. He currently has 24 wickets and will be looking to add to his tally.
For BACC the players to watch are Richard Ramdeen & Zaheer Saffie who have led their batting so far. Andre Kirton and Shawn Thompson will be the bowlers to look out for having lead the wickets column for BACC.
Fans are invited to come out and enjoy what has been built up to be the clash of the summer. EACA will provide audio commentary at the park to keep fans updated as the game progresses. The first ball bowls off at 12 PM.
The league has scheduled an early round of T20 games for some other teams. See schedule below.

Emmanuel, Ravello Too Much For NYCR

Umpires Association Retain Memorial Challenge

usacuaStaged within the backdrop of Labor Day, Brooklyn Carnival festivities, The United States of America Cricket Umpires Association(USACUA), held its second annual Memorial Challenge. Canarsie Oval at 80th street hosted the auspicious occasion, which recognized the contributions for Officials who had made their impression on the American game (Cricket).

Long before match day, the enthusiasm  and hype had being built around the respective representation. In 2012 Dyon Ravello had led the regional selection, ending second in a literal photo-finish. This term the Umpires sort to fortify their claim to Ravello, who for the second occasion qualified for both Association and Region. Following much negotiation, the Region relinquished not just Ravello, but, Jacob Emmanuel and Milford Lewis too, all of whom had adorned regional gear a summer earlier.

As the proceedings began USACUA President, Fitzroy Hayles made special mention of Lennox Douglas, Jerry Kishun, Owen Roberts, Henrietta Scott, Lee Roberts, Don Harris, and Lloyd Thompson. From the list umpires who had served locally and abroad as well as key financial donors. Once a moment of silence had been observed, New York Region took first strike after winning the toss.

For the second time NYCR were first to bat, with Chairman Lester Hooper and Cyril Choy taking advantage of the loose deliveries on offer. Hooper signaled his intentions early with some sharp running between the wickets. Choy was up for the challenge, but was undone by a direct hit by USACUA captain Qayaam Farooq, 18/1. Former West Indies batsman, Shiv Sewnarine joined Hooper as the pair ended the mandatory field restriction at 47/1 scoring 7.83 per over.

The bowling pair for Lionel Francis (1/21) and Emmanuel (1/19) tightened the screws for the Umpires, accounting for 8 overs which conceded a mere 32 runs at 5.20 per over. At 56, Francis had Hooper (19) stumped by Lewis. Sewnarine’s cameo of 27 was ended as Emmanuel breached the gates, 65/3. With six overs left Ricketts removed Cliff Roye 18, Lewis completing his second stumping. Derrick Kallicharran 28 and Sham Ali 18 provided the momentum to see the regional selection close at 149/6.

Set a competitive 150 for 120 balls at 7.5 runs per over, the Umpires suffered an early setback as Farooq was caught at point off the second delivery of the innings, Sam Bellnevis the bowler. Ravello was not daunted, seeing the back of his skipper as he found a capable partner in Deoraj Sewnanan. The pair mixed aggression with quick running, while respecting the good deliveries. At the end of the field restriction the umpire were 16 runs behind at 33/1, compared to the Region at a similar stage.  Sewnanan (27) turned up the tempo with some lusty blows before he was run out looking for another quick single.

With the scores about par at the end of the ninth over, entered Jacob Emmanuel. In the eleventh over Emmanuel whipped Roye to cow corner for a maximum, in an over which saw the score skyrocket from 75/2 to 95/2. Kallicharran conceded 16 off his only over as the equation was reduced to 39 runs off 48 balls. As if that was not enough to deflate the administration, Emmanuel’s four boundaries, one of which was a switch-hit in the fourteenth over surely did. Ravello remained unbeaten on 41 providing the foundation for Emmanuel to score 50 at a fiery rate of 227.30. Umpires completed a convincing seven wicket win with 18 deliveries to spare.

Five Centurions Ton Up Power 40

Nazeer, K. Harricharran, Stanford, Girdharry, Ross Cash In

Rafeez Nazeer scorched and unbeaten 134 to lead Galaxy over Camelot

Rafeez Nazeer scorched and unbeaten 134 to lead Galaxy over Camelot

EACA Power 40 closed out with a flourish of centuries. The run-gates seemed to be gaping open as Atlantis posted 420 at 10.5 runs per over. Even Galaxy and Arsenal enjoy healthier than normal run rates. The round was highlighted not only by the three qualifiers but also by five centurions.

In the virtual quarterfinal between American Cricket Society (ACS) and Big Apple, ACS earned a narrow one wicket win to finish second. Fortunately for Big Apple, Meten-Meer-Zorg’s defeated to Richmond Hill ensured qualification. Trevis Ross notched and unbeaten 107 for MMZ but it was in vain as Richmond Hill continued their flawless run this season to eliminate the 2011 champions.

In an academic event Liberty edged Hillside by two wickets. A welcomed victory which should bring some much need momentum ahead of the T20 Blitz tournament. Galaxy were in an unforgiving mood as Rafeez Nazeer pasted a brilliant 134 not out, alongside Krishna Harricharran who remained unbeaten on 109.

Atlantis with their destiny in hand made good use of the run flow as they eliminated Arsenal. Arsenal, qualification outsiders needed a positive result to stay alive, were upstaged by US National batsmen Nicholas Stanford 158 and Ryan Girdharry 121. Arsenal made a dash for the grand 400 plus chase scoring at a frenetic 8.15 runs per over before the curtain fell on their 2013 Power 40 campaign. For Atlantis Greg Robinson snared four wickets.

Summaries:

Big Apple 191 in 36.4 overs, Alexandrino Kirton 72, Richard Ramdeen 29, Karan Ganesh 3/48 lost to American Cricket Society 192/9 in 39.3 overs, Steve Nowrangilall 74, Dwayne Smith 26, Himendra Ramdihall 2/25, Telston Johnson 2/49.

Hillside 217/9 in 40 overs, J Mangal 82, Boughnarine Persaud 32, Andy Harricharran 3/34, Imtiaz Hassan 2/30 lost to Liberty 219/8 in 36 overs, Hassan 62, Terrence Madramootoo 40* Ganise Lalisa 3/37, Mangal 3/45.
