The first stage of the EACA Power40 competition will be an inter-zone, round robin format. At the end of the 7 games teams will be re-ranked in their zone based on points and net run rate.

A & B Division Round Robin

After re-ranking, the top four teams from Zone I and top four from Zone II will be placed in the EACA Power40 A Division. Similarly the bottom four teams from each zone will be placed in the EACA Power40 B Division. An inter-division round-robin round will be played.

A & B Division Playoffs

Following the 2 round robin stages the teams will be re-ranked in their respective divisions based on points and net run rate from all 14 games played at this point. Division playoffs will then be played to determine the EACA Power40 Champion.

Playoff Format NOTE: This format takes precedence over what is stated in the playing conditions (there will be no Quarter-Finals due to only 8 teams being in each Division).

Stated below is applicable to both the A & B division. The premier 40 Overs Champion (THE EACA POWER40 CHAMPION) will be taken from the A Division by following this format. The B Division champion, according to this format also, will be recognized as the THE EACA POWER40 B-DIVISION CHAMPION.

EACA Power40 Semi-Finals: One alternate day set in the event of rain out. Should the alternate day also rain out #1 & #2 in the respective divisions will play the final to determine the champion.

Semi-Final 1:

Division #1 vs Devision #4

 Semi-Final 2:

Devision #2 vs Division #3

EACA Power40 Final: One alternate day set in the event of a rain out. Should the alternate day for the final be rained out the team with the higher # of points/net run rate slated to compete in the final will be the winner of the tournament.

Semi-Final 1 winner vs Semi-Final 2 winner

Hosts and grounds for the playoff games will be announced at a later date.
The ‘EACA T20 Blitz’ format will also be announce at a later date.

Khilawan 67, Hassan 4’fer not enough to stop Balwant and Everest/ACS

A solid 67 runs from Dilly Khilawan and returns of 4 for 44 from skipper, Imtiaz Hassan, proved not enough for the Achievers Real Estate NY Inc. sponsored Liberty Sports Club to stop Everest/ACS in their week 2 Eastern American Cricket Association Power 40 encounter.

LSC won the toss and took first strike on a windy but sunny day at Bay County Park. The men in blue found themselves in early trouble when a careless run out accounted for Hemchandrabose Persaud.

Micheal Noble then joined the 2011 MVP, Dilly, the pair commenced a threatening partnership. Noble with his typical technical cover and straight drives and Dilly with his typical aggression. The pair would put on 70 for the second wicket when another error in judgment of a quick single would cost Noble his wicket for 32.

The departure of Noble saw LSC in an all too familiar position to their opening game against Richmond Hill CC. Four quick wickets fell in the middle order leaving Dilly only to hold firm at the other end. He found some support in his brother Vickey Khilawan who scored a quick fire 24 which included taking 14 off of a Marlon Persaud over.

Dilly Khilawan top scored in the game with 67 for Liberty Sports Club

Dilly would get past 50 and carry on to 67 before getting out bowled by Arun Merchant. The remainder of the LSC batsmen pushed the total to 169 all out off 39.3 overs. Merchant was the pick of the bowlers for Everest bowlers with 4 for 27 off 8 overs while Karan Ganesh bowled a miserly 8 overs for 21 runs and claimed 3 wickets.

The defense of the under par total began strong for LSC as they removed ACS openers Merchant & Steve Nowrangilall cheaply. Tamesh Balwant coming in at number three found support from skipper Karan Ganesh as the pair thwarted the efforts of LSC bowlers and pushed Everest forward in their charge for victory. Ganesh fell for 38 but by then Balwant was set and his team in a safe position to close in on victory.

Hassan would pick up two more wickets in addition to the openers but that could not stop Everest from closing their chase off in the 32ndover. Balwant finished on 65 not out.

LSC will continue their push to gain grounds in the EACA Zone 1 this Sunday against East Side Warriors while Everest/ACS will tackle Enmore CC.

All-Rounder Vijendra Singh helps Liberty SC Tie with Richmond Hill CC

By Danesh Deonarain

May 9, 2012

Playing his first match for Liberty Sports Club, Vijendra ‘Jay’ Singh, put together a steady performance with the bat and ball to boost Liberty Sports Club to a nail biting tie against Richmond Hill Cricket Club.

LSC lost veteran batsman, Marlon Kallicharran, early after they were asked to bat by RHCC. Hemchandrabose Persaud kept the momentum going for the men in blue, scoring a solid 35. However, the loss of Bose Persaud triggered a mid order collapse for LSC as Danesh Deonarain, Michael Noble & 2011 Liberty MVP, Dilly Khilawan, fell shortly after.

With LSC in some trouble Jay Singh joined his captain, Imtiaz Hassan (36), and contributed a valuable 24 in the closing overs of the innings as Liberty SC posted 182 in 39.2 overs Baisley Park “Cage” outfield.

Vijendra “Jay” Singh scored 24 with the bat and took 2 for 32 to help Liberty kept Richmond Hill in check

Sankar brothers Debo & Rayo got RHCC off to an ominous start in their chase. The opening pair put on 103 by the 20th at which point Richmond Hill looked to be cruising to a comfortable victory. Some athletic and smart work in the field by LSC put a damper in RHCC’s plans, however. Three RHCC bats were run out in a short period of play to even things up.

Jay Singh then made his mark with the ball to remove the Debo (77) off a superb diving catch by 2011 LSC Best Bowler, Thakur Singh.  Jay’s strike swung the match in LSC’s favor with RHCC needing 60 odd runs at a run a ball.

At the other end the veteran spinner Ramratan Jagnarine (8 overs for 26) was strangling the run flow along with Terrence Madramootoo (8-0-35-1). Jay would go on to make another important strike in the latter stages to bowl Fidel Sooknandan.

The game wound down to RHCC needing 7 runs off the last Micheal Noble over. Needing 3 run off the last ball, the young duo of Deoram Puran & Surrendra Naul held their nerve to scamper 2 singles to tie the game for RHCC. Bowling for Liberty Noble had 1 for 31 and Jay Singh 2 for 32.

Earlier in the match Fidel bowled superbly for RHCC, knocking over the top 4 LSC batsmen in his opening spell of 8 overs for 32 runs, able support came from Mahendra Seeram with 2 for 29 and Deoram Pooran 2 for 3.

Both teams will gain 3 points in the Eastern American Cricket Association Zone I points table.
