For the Under-19’s there are six player with national experience. Captain Trevis Ross alongside 2012 captain Amarnauth Persaud should lead the batting department. The Under-17’s are the stars of the future, a group not too well known. However the likes of Nicholas Harripersaud, Michael Katwaroo and Chetram Persaud will be keen to etch their names in regional folklore.

Kallicharran Too Good For Centurion

By Jerry Persaud

A brilliant all-round performance from veteran Derrick Kallicharran who took 3 wickets for 13 runs off his allotted 8 overs and made 59 not out which contained 6 fours and 4 sixes, enabled Enmore Cricket Club to defeat the overrated
Centurion C.C. last Sunday at Lido Beach. Enmore by virtue of this win took them to the first place going into the EACA Division II playoff.

Centurion in winning the toss opted to take first strike and opened their batting with former US under 19 player Trevor Singh and the classical S. Ramjohn. Both openers was batting fluently despite a few dropped catches until Jason Thomas was introduced into the attack and accounted for the first wicket, that of Ramjohn LBW for 48 ( 7x4 & 1x6)K. Jairam was the next in but did not survived for too long and was also out LBW to Thomas. In came the talented cricketer Troy Doodnauth who started off very cautiously.

Kallicharran was introduced into the attack and had Singh dancing down the track only to be deceived and stumped by stand-in wicket keeper Nicky Joseph for a well played 50. O Myrie came in next and after driving Kallicharran for a beautiful four was out in Kallicharran's next over caught for 10. As wickets started falling as Kallicharran accounted for the next two batsmen. Troy must have felt that his team needed him to step up the tempo. In attempting to go after hitting a six and couple of fours, he was out caught by Asif Ali on the Long off boundary off the bowling of Leroy Jackman for a well played 41.

Centurion were then bowled out for 216 runs off 36.2 overs.

Batting for Centurion: S. Ramjohn - 48
T. Singh - 50
T. Doodnauth - 41

Bowling for Enmore:

Jason Thomas 2 for 54
Derrick Kallicharran - 3 for 13
Leroy Jackman 2 for 16.

Enmore in reply opened their batting with the dependable Safraz Ali and Mark Gomes. Safraz was the first to go via the LBW route pushing way in front for 35 that contained five fours. Nigel Bridgelall was the next in and he stick around for a while. Mark Gomes was the second wicket to go via LBW for a well played 30 that contained four boundaries. Nicky Joseph was the next to go, caught for 1 and Charlton Senior following suit, caught for 11. In came Kallicharran, who showed it is not too old to play this glorious game of uncertainties as long as you are fit. After taking a peek at a few deliveries, Kallicharran opened up and started to hit some glorious boundaries, one of them was a effortless 6 over the cover boundary, that went a long way.

Enmore sensing victory with the partnership of Bridgelall and Kallicharran, suffered a bit of set back, when Nigel was out LBW for 37, playing a tired shot. Captain Saheed Mohamed then came in, struck three fours and a six before he was out caught off a long hop.

Asif Ali came in and went back in a flash to the pavilion when he was out LBW for a first ball duck. Jackman joined Kallicharran and the two of them saw Enmore to victory at 219 for 6 off 36.3 overs.

Batting for Enmore:

D. Kallicharran 59 Not Out.
S. Ali - 35
M. Gomes - 30.
N. Bridgelall - 37
S. Mohammed - 21.

Bowling for Centurion:

N. Nandan - 3 for 30.
S. Ramjohn 2 for 47.
V. Persaud 2 for 25
T. Doodnauth 0 for 45.

Enmore will now play NY All-stars in the semifinals this Sunday at the beautiful Lido Ground.

EACA: All To Play For

Debo Sankar 66 for Richmond Hill against Big Apple

Debo Sankar 66 for Richmond Hill against Big Apple

August 11th should have been the final round in the Eastern American First Division. With two matches rescheduled for August 18th, the scheduling adds to the intrigue at the business end. Three spots remain with five teams in with a chance at the semifinals. Looking forward Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) play Liberty and Arsenal tackle Galaxy on August 18th. But it will be the three 10-pointers this Sunday which will chart the course.

In round 13 MMZ continued their inconsistent form as they dropped valuable points to American Cricket Society (ACS) in a low scoring affair. ACS were restricted to 172 in 39.3 overs with a number of cameos along the way, Aun Merchant 27 and Trevon Forde 26 were the topscorers. For MMZ Rayhanul Islam, 2/16 and Zaieed Majeed 2/24 led the bowling, with Rocky Kowchai and Saumil Gandhi scalping two wickets each also. MMZ found themselves in earlier trouble against Saheed Amin and Trevor Walke, with Azurdeen Mohammed showing some fight with 26. Majeed contributed 23 but that was as much as they would have as they will bowled out for 103 in 31.3 overs. Veteran spinner Zamin Amin lead his side with 4/25, Karan Ganesh 2/15, Saheed 2/21 and Walke 2/27. ACS will be looking for a win over Big Apple in a virtual quaternary, to secure a place in the semis. MMZ face the undefeated Richmond Hill.

Richmond Hill though having advanced are keen to maintain their undefeated run. They showed just that when they meet second placed Big Apple. Richmond Hill were led by Debo Sankar 66 who provided the foundation for the innings. At the back end Deryck Mac Donald scored a brisk 41 not out off 25 balls to help his side to 248/7. Alexandrino Kirton had 3/53 and Zaheer Saffie 2/38 for Big Apple. Big Apple looking to secure a place in the semifinals were made to work hard as they fell 26 runs short, At 222 all out in 37.4 overs, with 20 balls unused Big Apple will take that lesson when they meet ACS. Skipper Shameer Sadloo was on the ball with 4/25, getting support from Kumar Nandalall 2/52. Richmond Hill wont be offering any favors when they face MMZ.

Hillside got the better of Galaxy with a comfortable five wicket victory. Galaxy batted first in this academic affair to post a competitive 231 in 39.4 overs. Krishna Harricharran 59 and Sunesh Wazid 52 were the main run scorers for Galaxy. W Persaud and Boughnarine Persaud had two wickets each for Hillside. J Mangal 81 not out, Nazam Juman 59 and Boughnarine 49 completed the brace for Hillside. Rafeek Nazeer had 2/53 for Galaxy who face Camelot this weekend, as Hillside tackle Liberty.

With Atlantis keeping pace with a win over Camelot, it was important for Arsenal to turn back Liberty to keep their hopes alive. Liberty’s dismal season continued as they were restricted to 177 in 35 overs. Danesh Deonarine 44 and Marlon Persaud 29 were the only resistance to the Arsenal. Syed Hussain 3/32, Ayyaz Chaudhry 3/38 and Rehan Shahid 2/29 kept Liberty within sight. Liberty made Arsenal work for the win as the accounted for six dismissals. Lisan Chaudhry 37 and Mohammed Rehman 31 did enough to take Arsenal home by the 34th over. Altaf Habibulla continued his good form with 2/39. Both sides have two matches remaining with Arsenal knowing wins over Atlantis and Galaxy will take them through. As for Liberty they will be looking for consolations against Hillside and MMZ, the last of which may very well be a spoiler.

In Division II Emore tackle Centurion in a bout for first place at Lido Beach. Eastside Warriors and All Stars arethe other two semifinalist. Falcons, Victory, Long Island United and Phantom will have to look to the T20 Blitz for any chance at glory this season

EACA Round 12: Four Eliminated in  Division I

Amsterdam was consistent with the Bat and Ball for Atlantis on the opening day of Play in the EACA 2012 T20 Blitz

Alex Amsterdam 104 for Atlantis was not enough, as they were nipped by Big Apple

Round 12 was completed on, July 28th with a series of decisive results. Amarnauth Persaud’s 103 not out lifted Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) to a morale boosted victory which effectively ended Galaxy’s Power 40 campaign. MMZ posted 228/3, with captain Azurdeen Mohammed 43 and Trevis Ross 41 supporting Persaud. Galaxy came up short in their chase as they were bowled out for 135 in 34.2 overs. Yudesh Bissnauth 48 and Rafeek Nazeer were the most noteworthy contributions. Saumil Gandhi3/33, Saud Hussain 2/2, Mohammed 2/12 and Rocky Kowchai 2/13 shared the wickets to complete a 93 run win.

In the match of the week, a ten pointer if you will, Atlantis hosted Big Apple. Batting first the host were led by Alex Amsterdam 104 and Ron Andrews 54. for Big Apple, Alexandrino Kirton 3/37 and skipped Zaheer Saffie 2/27 were the pick of the bowlers. Set a competitive 260 to win at 6.50 runs per over Big Apple relied on the experience of former West Indian batsman Ryan Ramdeen 53. Losing wickets at a frequent rate, Big Apple maintained a fluent tempo well above the required rate. A rearguard innings of 67 not out by Telston Johnson completed a jail breaking one wicket win with 52 balls to spare. Greg Robinson 3/54 and Keon Lake 3/64 accounted for most of the inroads but it was not enough in the end.

American Cricket Society (ACS) earned five vital points as they eliminated Hillside Sports. Hillside were routed for 152 in 33 overs, Nedesh  Basdeo 62 held off the persistent ACS attack. For ACS the work load was shared, with Aun Merchant 2/17, Terry Hastoo 2/20, Zamin Amin 2/22 and Saheed Amin 2/54. Hillside did cause some concern as they scalped four wickets, but ACS were always in the driver seat as they completed victory in 24 overs.

Richmond Hill remained faultless as Roderick Lovell’s 5/41 set the tempo against Arsenal.  Robin Dass 75 and Shayed Zaman 38 held Arsenal together as they posted 188 in 36.1 overs. Shameer Sadloo 3/40 and Kumar Nandalall 2/19 played perfect supporting roles to Lovell. Sudesh Dhaniram stroked his third century of the season, creating acreage between him and the number batsman in the EACA Power 40. Dhaniram’s unbeaten 103 and Wazid Ward 37 not out completed an impressive eight wicket victory as Richmond Hill booked a semifinal berth.

Liberty’s win of Camelot was more of an academic event as both sides are unable to amass sufficient points to challenge for a semifinal berth. For the bottom four they will try to play the role of spoilers as Division I draws to the business end. Arsenal stand with an outside chance at qualification with Atlantis positioned iwth the best chance to displace one of MMZ, Big Apple and ACS. All-Round Liberty SC Notch First Division I Win

Liberty Captain Danesh Deonarain, led his side to victory with an unbeaten 45

Liberty Captain Danesh Deonarain, led his side to victory with an unbeaten 45

by The Blue Nation

Liberty Sports Club put in a strong all-round performance to get back in the winning column against Camelot CC in the Eastern American Cricket Association Power40 competition. Played at the Baisley Cage on Sunday, July 28th LSC bowled out Camelot for 166 and then chased down the total in the 21st over with 5 wickets to spare. Altaaf Habibulla picked up three wickets while skipper Danesh Deonarain knocked up an unbeaten 45 to lead Blue Nation to victory.

In overcast conditions Camelot CC won the toss and elected to bat, a decision which looked to be in their favor after being 60 without loss as the 1st drinks break approached. However, Imtiaz Hassan had Roy Harry (28) stumped in the 15th over and that opened up the game for LSC. Ian Chin (40), Imdad Khan (33) and Taahir Surijpaul (23) offered some resistance but it was Altaaf Habibulla who picked up three key middle order wickets which led to Camelot CC being bowled out for 166. Vijay Naidu, making a comeback after being away from the game for 4 years, picked up two wickets also bowling his leg breaks.

LSC’s chase got off to a worrying start after loosing opening batsman Dilly Khilawan for naught and then Habibulla (15) with the score on 32. Captain, Danesh Deonarain, joined opening batsman Bose Persaud as the duo moved the score past 50 before Persaud held out to long on. Hassan joined Deonarain and the pair steadied up the chase before Hassan (22) was caught at mid wicket.

Thakur Singh (13) who earlier sent down a miserly spell of spin bowling opening the ball for LSC stayed with Deonarain to bring the chase within striking distance before he was bowled. Naidu continued to enjoy his return to competitive league cricket, with a quick fire 14 not out to help close off the chase.

Deonarain struck 5 fours in his game high knock of 45 not out as he navigated the LSC chase through the 21 overs.
