Top Performers Mendonca, Kirton Off To USA Cricket Combine

USA National and Former USA U-19 look to make Combine count

Photo 1Liberty Sports Club top performers Andre Kirton and Francis Mendonca, both of whom are featured at the top of the 2016 Easter American Cricket Assocation leader-boards, will be participating in this week’s USA Cricket Combines. The LSC duo were both invited to the New York stage of the combines for the four day event which seeks to identify USA talent. 

Francis Mendonca a prolific wicket keeper batsman is currently in second place in the list of leading runs scorer in the competitive EACA. Mendonca’s 153 runs after four innings is worth it’s weight in gold given the tough batting conditions due to weather affected pitches for all four of the innings. Complementing his batting exploits Mendonca has been exceptional behind the stumps with a league leading 5 wicket-keeping dismissals.

Mendonca joined LSC in 2014 and was instrumental to helping the club to it’s first semi-final appearance in the EACA that same year and a championship in 2015. All-rounder Andre Kirton has been on top of his game in 2016. He currently sits at the top of the bowling list in the EACA with 10 wickets at an outstanding 7.4 runs apiece and an economical rate of 2.86 runs per over. Kirton’s returns with the ball was equally supplemented by his performance at the other end of the wicket. In four appearances at the crease Kirton racked up 104 runs with two uneaten innings allowing him an average of 52 per inning.

Kirton joined LSC in 2015 and was key to proving the additional impetus needed to get the club to it’s first 40-Overs Championship that same year. He was also a critical part of the club’s T20 unit which competed in the league’s final . On a day when rain threatened to totally prevent play, the skies held back long enough to allow a 30 overs encounter between table topper Everest/ACS and defending champions Liberty Sports Club. Batting first E/ACS posted an imposing 180 for 8. With rain clouds drifting in with the Lido Beach waves LSC’s batting composed an organized chase to bring home a two wicket victory right before the skies broke open with drenching rain.

Following some dedicated work from the E/ACS players to get the pitch ready for play, LSC won the toss and elected to bowl first. Contrary to what the conditions indicated the Lido Beach pitch seemed unaffected by the early morning shower and was favorable for batting.

Muneshwar Patandin took full advantage of the wicket and compiled an aggressive 83. He struck 5 fours and 4 sixes in his inning high knock. Deveshwari Prashad chipped in with 31 while Prashad Mahadeo, Patandin’s opening partner contributed 25.

Leon Mohabir was the pick of the Chan’s P & H Mechanical sponsored LSC bowlers. He picked up 3 wickets for 41 runs. Andre Kirton continued his excellent bowling form sending down his 6 overs for just 18 runs and picking up 2 wickets.  Orlando Kirton and Terrence Madramootoo picked up a wicket each by the time the E/ACS inning ended at 180 for 8.

With a required run rate of 6 runs per over LSC needed 91 runs on the board by the time the 15th over come around in order to be ahead should rain end the match at that point. With the clouds holding back, Francis Mendonca (28) and Anthonio Chan kept focus on setting up the platform for the entire chase, however. The pair carried the score to 35 in the 10th over before Chan departed.

When the 15th over finished the score was 64 for 3 with Carmichael and Madramootoo at the crease. The duo put on a 42 runs partnership before Carmichael was run out for 30. Madramootoo added a further 29 runs with Andre Kirton before he was out caught for an inning high 36.

The hard hitting Vijendra Singh joined Kirton in the middle and added a quick fire partnership of 33. Singh contributed 12 quick runs which allowed the ball to runs ratio to draw even. Mohabir joined Kirton and the duo brought the chase down to 3 runs needed off the last six ball. Going for a second of the first ball Mohabir (11) was judged short of his ground despite of  a full length diving effort.

A dot ball followed before Kirton (30) held out to deep mid wicket off the 3rd ball of the over. With the equation requiring 2 runs off 3 balls a fortuitous swipe by captain Danesh Deonarain off his first ball resulted in a miss-field by the keeper, four byes and spirited celebration from the LSC camp.

The win puts LSC at the top of the EACA 40 Overs points table but it’s early days yet four games into the 14 game season

Sean Stanislaus Looks To Make American Combine Count

SeanSean Stanislaus started his cricket career as a fourteen year old opening batsman at the renowned Queens Park Cricket Club, Trinidad and Tobago. Dubbed a future Trinidad and Tobago Captain by former West Indies batsman and Queens Park Cricket Administrator, Bryan Davis, Stanislaus has always been destined to succeed in cricket. Davis even compared Stanislaus to the now globetrotting cricket superstar Dwayne Bravo.

In 2001 Stanislaus made the switch from the Twin Island republic to the United States of America to pursue a better education. In 2012 on his return to Queens Park, Stanislaus learned that his departure in 2001 was just mere days before a call up to Trinidad and Tobago national trials. It would be another six years before Stanislaus found cricket again. In 2007 Stanislaus joined Global Cricket Club of the Millennium Cricket League, one of the most competitive and near professional leagues in the North East. Stanislaus has been a core member on Global since, dominating the League with six 40 over titles and seven twenty/20 titles. Stanislaus has even led Global with former First Class and Test Players such as Sudesh Dhaniram, Niel Mc Garrell, Kevin Darlington and Jermaine Lawson.

Stanislaus has shown that he has longevity and commitment to stick with one club for an extend duration. In 2008 he joined the established GWIA of the Garden State Cricket League, one of the toughest, if not the most challenging league in the North East and the Nation. Stanislaus featured as a match winner alongside Mc Garrell season after season scoring two hundred and five fifties lifting the championship two times and was League MVP in 2012. Stanislaus exploits did not go unseen whether it be, his batting, wicket keeping or seam bowling. In 2008 he was rewarded with a selection to the Atlantic Region Team for the USACA Eastern Conference Tournament and has played at the regional level ever since. In 2014 Stanislaus walked out at the USACA National Championship as the Atlantic Region captain showcasing his leadership ability at the national level.

Apart from being a standout at the club and regional level Stanislaus has been a consistent figure at the US Open, Radiant Info Twenty/20 among other marquee tournaments across the land. Stanislaus is the fifth top run scorer in the history of the Millennium Cricket League with 2906 runs (40-Overs). Like the best students of the game Stanislaus can bat, bowl, wicket-keep and lead, and is seen by his contemporaries as a true asset to the US national program.

West Indies PCL Team of the Round IX

WI Professional Cricket League Team of the Ninth Round

JD CampbellJohn Campbell was the player of the round back in the third round and this week he topped the charts again. Campbell, the captain of Jamaica Scorpions led by example scoring 135 and 83 not out as well as picking up a five wicket haul with the ball. Campbell is sixth on the batting charts going into the final round with 572 runs and 20 wickets placing him at 13th on the wicket taking list. Campbell’s form of late has definitely shown signs of maturity and is surely one for the selectors to consider. This is Campbell’s second appearance on the team of the round.

Kraigg Brathwaite scored his third hundred this campaign, 123 to undo the Red Force. Only Vishaul Singh has as many centuries this season. Brathwaite is fourth on the run charts with 645 runs and this is his fifth appearance on the team of the round and is making his place on the test team one of the easiest to determine come selection time.

Devon Smith has been revving the run scoring engines over the last two rounds and even went one better this round. Smith scored 125 for Windward Island Volcanoes his 26th First Class century. Even though his efforts were not enough to avoid defeat to the Jamaica Scorpion Smith is surely pushing himself to be consider for the India test series with 588 runs and fifth overall.

Kyle Hope has been a revelation this season, sort of a late bloomer, following a successful NAGICO Super 50 tournament, he has been a consistent performer at the top of the order for the Red Force. Ironically, Hope a Barbadian provided the only resistance for Red Force against his former mates, the Barbados Pride, scoring 77 and 76. Hope is making his first appearance on the Team of the Round.

Montcin Hodge scored an unbeaten 149 for Leeward Island Hurricanes in a commanding performance against league leaders Guyana Jaguars. This was Hodge’s maiden First Class hundred elevating him to his first appearance on the Team of the round. Hodge has the second best batting average of 65.50.

Devon Thomas scored his second First Class hundred with a fluent 122 as the Scorpions made light work of the Volcanoes. This is Thomas’ first significant score this season and his first appearance on the team of the round. This century will do well to repay the Scorpions’ faith in him.

Kevin Stoute has been a consistent performer during the campaign for the Pride especially with his seam bowling. This round Stoute reminder us of his batting ability scoring 66 in addition to taking four wickets to oust the Red Force. Stoute is the second best quick bowler this season with 25 wickets and is tenth overall on the wicket taking charts. This is Stoute’s second appearance on the team of the round.

Gavin Tonge like Stoute put in an all-round performance this round scalping four wickets and scoring 59 with the bat. Tonge is the fifth best quick bowler this season with 19 wickets. This is Tonge’s first appearance on the team of the round.

Kemar Roach back from injury showed shades of his old self with a four wicket haul against the Red Force. Roach will be looking to continue this form going into the final round match against the Hurricanes. Roach will be pressing to impress on the selectors that he is still capable. This is Roach’s first appearance on the team of the round.

Damion Jacobs snared a five wicket haul to derail the Volcanoes. Jacobs has claimed 30 wickets this term and is the ninth most successful bowler. This is Jacob’s second appearance on the team of the round.

Jomel Warrican was the third bowler to claim five wickets this round as he helped Pride rout the Red Force. Warrican has taken 19 wickets from less that half the number of matches played, in his case four. Warrican completes the sextet of players making their team of the round debut.

USA Cricket Combines – 2016

The 2016 USA Cricket Combine application process is now open.

West Indies PCL Team of Round 8

Leon Johnson struck his second hundred of the season and the only century of the round, 107 to lead the Guyana Jaguars to victory over Jamaica Scorpions. Johnson is the second top scorer this season and is one who is pressing for a Test team recall when India arrives in the summer. Johnson has appearrf in the Team on the round on three previous occasions this season.

Kraigg Brathwaite scored 66 and 37 as Barbados Pride got the better of the Winward Islands Volcanoes. Brathwaite an incumbent on the West Indian Team has been doing his bit to retain his place. This is Brathwaite’s fourth appearance on the Team of the round and he sits fifth among the season’s leading run scorers.

Devon Smith appetite for runs does not seem to be waning with age. The Grenadian opener posted two fifties, 87 and 51 for the Volcanoes against the Pride and is the leading scorer for his side. Smith is tenth on the run scoring charts, but faces stiff competition if he is to gain a recall in the twilight of his career. This is Smith second and consecutive appearance on the Team of the Round.

Imran Khan who started his First Class career as a Batting All-rounder, but has been consistent of late mainly with his Leg Spin bowling, showed that he still have the tenacity to score runs. Promoted to open the batting a position he is familiar with especially in the dawn of his career, Khan scored 82 to add to his six wickets as he led the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force over the Leeward Islands Hurricanes. Khan is the third best bowler this season with 37 wickets and has previously appeared on the Team on the round once .

Roston Chase is making his fourth appearance on the Team of the Round on the back of 53 and an unbeaten 35 in Pride’s win over the Hurricanes. Chase is the third best batsman this term with 584 runs. His name should come up for consideration when the selector sit ahead of the India tour.

Narsingh Deonarine scored 68 for the Red Force over the Hurricanes which lifted him to his third appearance on the Team of the round. Deonarine has scored 384 run this campaign and sits twelfth on the batting charts.

Rakheem Cornwall had made the Team of the round in the past for mainly his bowling, but so too for his batting. This round Cornwall went one better displaying both his batting a bowling capabilities, scoring 31 and 65 as well as scalping five wickets. Cornwall has scored 328 run (16th) and taken 37 wickets to be the second best bowler in the league.

Justin Greaves makes his debut on the team of the round on the back of his five wicket haul against the Scorpions. Greaves in one of three Fast bowlers to make the team this round, the most by the Quicks for the Team of the Round this season.

Nikita Miller has been an unstoppable force this season featuring in six of eight Team of the rounds this term. Miller’s consistency has been sublime of late starring in all of the last five rounds. Miller is twenty plus wickets ahead of Cornwall in second with 58 scalps. If there was a time for Miller to have his chance it would be no other time than this season.

Mervin Matthews like Greaves makes his first appearance on the Team of the round this season. Matthews’ six wicket haul against the Jaguars lifted him to the Team of the round. Matthew is the third most successful fast bowler this term with 18 wickets.

Ronsford Beaton completes the pace bowling trio for the Team of the round as he too makes his first appearance to the Team . His five wicket burst stunned the Hurricanes. Beaton is the sixth best quick this campaign with 15 wickets.
