Sohan Dass fine all round performance powers Everest Home.

Caribbean Masters compile  a total of 153 all out in 25 overs, around the bat of Shahid 45, L. Reid 26, R. Brown 21 and E. Mc Chargh 16. Bowling for Everest CC  Sohan Dass and Lincoln Deonarine was the chief wicket takers with 3 each.

Everest Cricket Club was off to a disastrous start losing their first three batsmen D.Sankar, G.Ramsingh and C.Choi for ducks with the score board reading 0, soon R. Sankar joined the crew caught for 8, however, Terry Hastoo 37, Zamin Amin 30, Sohan Dass 40 not out and Sham Ali 21 not out saw Everest home.

EVEREST COMPLETE WIN COMFORTABLE AGAINST VILLAGE RAMS.

On a hot hazy and humid day on June 30th at Baisley Park (cage), Village Rams’ captain was all Smiles, as he won the toss and without hesitation elected to bat first.

However, that smile turned into sorrow as they was bundle out for a paltry 115 in 26.1 overs. Haseeb Shariff 3 for 52, Lincoln Deonarine 2 for 12 and Sohan Dass 2 for 13 were the main destroyers.

Needing 116 for Victory , Everest batsmen hit off the required runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 18 overs. Debo Sankar and Ganesh Ramsingh struck 27 each while Sohan Dass hit 24, Royo Sankar 19  and Zamin Amin 4 remained unbeaten. Bowling for Village Rams C.Domar and T.Gordon had 1 wicket each.

Stallions, Superstar Top NYPD After 3 rounds

by Dyon Ravello

Carmichael hits NYPD high with 83 against Stallions

NYPD Cricket completed its third week with matches across Queens. Monday at Baisley Pond, Stallions played Dragons as Superstar meet Brooklyn Knights. In game one Dragons batting first scored a competitive 172/5 with Trinson Carmichael scoring a tournament high of 83 with support from Rafique Nazeer 29. Stallions completed their third victory in as many matches winning by five wickets with Fahad and Jazeeb Tariq 34 each and Asiun 28 to stay unbeaten.

Brooklyn Knights won the toss and batted first but could only manage 118 off 19.5 overs. Ali scored 35 and Rahim 32 as Rahynul Islam continued his potent bowling from the weekend with 2/8, Inzamam 2/16 and Dino Cho Wam Nee 1/12. Superstars webt all guns blazing as they completed the chase in 10 overs to win by five wickets, Clifford Hamilton 35 and Islam 17 not out.

On Tuesday at Kissena, Daredevils made light work of Knight Riders as Knight Riders were routed for 47. Bilal Khan ripping through the top order with pace, aggression and accuracy to return figures of 4/5. Prashant Nair had 1/6 and left arm seamer Burhan 1/10. Daredevils needed just seven overs to complete the win losing two wickets in the process.

Richmond Hill chalked up their second win as they beat Predators by 37 runs. Richmond Hill racked up 181/7 with Jassi 42, Sahel 21 and Leon Mohabir 20. Predators were restricted as they could only manage 144/7 in reply, still in search of a win.

Moiz scored 21 and took three wicket for Punjab’s first win

Punjab took first strike against the bustling Lycans, looking for a win, a first at that. Wickets fell at regular intervals with only Mustafa Moiz (21) batting to give his side a chance. Lycans were led by captain Foysal and Mahruf with three wicket each, as Reza and Rmran had two scalps to restricted Punjab to 134 in 19.3 overs.

Having chased 172 last week 135 looked less daunting. Even with loose bowling from the Punjab

Dey scored 81 the second highest score this season to lead Night Owls

quickies Lycans looked set. But Imran Mahzar bowled opener Tanim (23) as Punjab looked to dig in. Mustafa Moiz bowling both leg spin and off breaks, proved witty as he snared three wickets to put the pressure back on the batting side. Waqas Shah had danger man Syed caught and bowled a vital wicket as he picked two wickets. Khawar with two wickets finalized the resulted as Lycan lost the plot allout for 110 losing by 25 runs.

It was “D Dey” for Night Owls as the wicket keeper batsman scored 81 to lead his side to 186/7 against Kryptonites. Muktaz had two wickets. Kryptonites were never up to the task as they cheered every run allout for 101 losing by85 runs.

Stallions Take NY Cricket Academy Sixes

The New York Cricket Academy hosted it inaugural Sixes Tournament on July 4th 2012 at Baisley Pond. Eight teams contested the knockout format five over affair. The teams were placed in a blind draw with each captain pulling a number to complete the bracket. Following the draw, Americas Cricket Academy (ACA) played New York Centurions, Liberty CC tackled bulldogs, Cosmos challenged Melbourne and Stallions took on BCANA.

Mars Hits Sixes Fifty to lead ACA

In the opener ACA batted first, with Troy Mars scoring 52 not out after he returned at the fall of the first wicket. Captain Akeem Dodson retired scoring 34, as any batsman scoring in excess of 31 was obliged to retired, but could have returned at the fall of a wicket as in the case of Mars. ACA 93/1 off 30 deliveries. Marlon Kallicharan took the only wicket of Andre Kirton. Centurions were restricted to 63 with V Persaud 20 and Kallicharan 18. Rafique Nazeer had 1 wicket, so too did Mars as he capped of a match winning display, to led ACA to the semifinals.

In game two Bulldogs batting first against Liberty, were restricted to 51/5. A Khan top-scored with 14 as Thakur Singh, Terence Madramootoo, Michael Noble and Trinson Carmichael took a wicket each. Liberty needed as little as 14 balls to get home with Skipper Noble leading the charge with 30 not out. Liberty booking a place in the semis with ACA.

Melbourne took first strike against Cosmos, scoring 62 from their allotted 5 overs. Sumon top scored with 13 as R Levy and C Burton had two wickets each. Cosmos were lead by Faisal Taj 26 and M Lewis 13 but fell 9 runs short as they closed on 53/3. Sumon with an all rounder performance picking up two wickets to booked a semifinal berth for Melbourne.

Bangladesh Cricket Association North America (BCANA) were restricted to 59/4 as they played Stallions. Jasim bowled his over for 3 runs 1 wicket as did Jazeeb Tariq 1/7. Stallions were comfortable winners losing three wickets, with Zayib Tariq and Abrar Zafar scoring 24 each. Stallions to meet Melbourne, completing the semifinal block.

ACA stumble in Sixes

ACA won the toss against Liberty as they attempted to repeat the free flowing scoring from earlier in the day. Mars 15 and Akeem Dodson 27 continued the onslaught. It was the dismissal of Mars which pegged ACA’s later push as Alex Amsterdam bowled the dangerous Andre Kirton before picking up Ahmad Dodson too. Liberty set 68 from 3o balls a long way from the imposing 94 of earlier in the day.

Mars started tightly conceding just eight off the first over. Amsterdam proved the game changer with the bat as he did with the ball hitting two sixes off Nazeer in the second over and then another two of Ahmad as he retired on 33 delivering what would be a knockout punch. Noble 22 ensured that there would be no blemishes as he took 15 off Kirton to complete the victory with 5 balls to spare. Liberty in the final without even losing a wicket shocking early favorites ACA.

Melbourne batted first for the second time on the day, but like ACA they need something special to brace a final place. Stallions conceded 56 in their 5 overs as Jasim took 2/12. Stallions confident and composed winning with Z. Tariq 23 meeting Liberty for the first NYCA Sixes Championship.

Stallions Are First New York Cricket Academy Sixes Champions

Noble won the toss and invited Stallions to batted as the five over affair now consisted of eight deliveries rather than six. Noble’s decision to insert the opposition paid dividend as he had the Tariq brother first Zayib and then Jazeeb off the first two deliveries of the innings. Abrar Zafar 25, and Mohsin Bhatti 29 stuck to the task as Stallions recovered to 93-5. Like Stallions, Liberty were in early trouble with semifinal star Amsterdam falling in the first over to A. Zafar. Noble 14, Imtiaz Hassan 13 and Madramootoo 12 all played solid but lacked the lusty hitting need at 2.5 run per ball. Zayib had 2/8 to confirm the outcome along with Bhatti 1/7 and Jasim 2/7, Liberty nowhere near 66 over 5 overs, to lose by 27 runs. Stallions, New York Cricket Academy Sixes Champions 2012

NYPD: Ross and Hamilton lead Superstars over Kryptonites

By Dyon Ravello

NYPD action continued last Thursday following the Independence holiday. Superstars met Kryptonites with the latter batting first. Superstars proved their superiority restricting their opponents to 139/4 only Antu 36 and Hasan 29 with any meaningful contributions. In reply Travis Ross 56 and Clifford Hamilton 47 posted 109 run opening stand to impair the potency of the Kryptonites. Superstars got home to win by eight wickets to go 2-0.

Earlier in the week Stallions chalked up their second win in as many matches against Predators. Predators batting first got to 153/8 with Abdulla 31and Dipta 21 off their 20 overs. Stallions led by Jazeeb Tariq 78 and brother, US youth player Zayib Tariq 38 got home by 5 wickets. Knight Riders were limited to 94, 13 runs better than a week prior. Brooklyn Knights lost seven wickets before completing the victory.

Prashant Nair tops NYPD batting with 154 runs in two matches and is yet to be dismissed.

Prashant Nair continued his onslaught  on the NYPD tournament with an unbeaten 78 following up his 76 on the opening day. Daredevils scored an imposing 180/3 with Usman contributing 39.  Night Owls who had Superstars on the run made good of their efforts this time around to complete the chase in the sweltering midday heat.

Punjab met Richmond Hill as they looked to recover from their narrow defeat to Dragons. Batting first Punjab captain Imran Mahzar (49) and Waqas Shah (21) opened the innings with a partnership which lasted 10.4 overs. Punjab scoring 123/8 with Faraz picking up two wickets. Richmond Hill made light work of the asking rate as they lost four wickets in their chase. Choudhary 21 and Leon Mohabir 46 not out both playing cricketing shots leading the South Queens line up home.

Dragons won the toss and batted first against Lycans. Opener Rafique Nazeer 33 and Trinson Carmichael 38 gave the Dragons a healthy start. Wickets fell consistently following the dismissals of the NYYCC pair as the Reds closed on 171/9. Foysal had three wickets, as Rifat and Shovon had two each.

Lycans were up to the task as Rifat 39, Zahid 32 kept their teams hopes alive. It was Syed 56 who capitalized on the loose Dragons bowling and horrendous fielding as Lycans won by three wickets. Only Sajeed Salam with three wickets and H. Hossain two looked to pegged back their opponents.

Lake Claw Altantis to Narrow Win versus MMZ

By Dyon Ravello

The Eastern America Cricket Association resumed on July 8th with a real oven top fixture between Atlantis and Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ). Visitors Atlantis won the toss and took first strike at  Flushing. MMZ were immediately rewarded when pacer Rocky Kowchai had Henderson Blade caught at gully by Travis Ross off the very first ball of the innings. New batsman, the in-form Nicholas Stanford, dished out three boundaries before the end of the first over. Kowchai was not swayed by Stanford’s disdain as Alex Amsterdam was bowled leaving alone.

Steven Jacobs, Guyanese National all-rounder, joined Stanford and they continued to take apart Kowchai’s Bowling. At the other end Rahynul Islam kept it tight, bowling wicket to wicket. Islam was rewarded when he had Stanford (33) caught at mid on by Captain Azurdeen Mohammed. Islam persevered on roundabout off to Jacobs, as he utilized the element of surprise with a sharp bouncer inducing a false stroke as Jacobs lobbed a simple catch to cover, Altantis reeling  at 57 for 4.

Mohammed replaced Kowchai as Islam bowled eight overs unchanged. Kaveshwar Bridgepaul (27) took a liking to the quick left arm orthodox of Mohammed dispatching him for 16 in one over. Islam was not done as his bowled Ron Andrews who looked to be bugged down by the consistency and accuracy of the medium pacer. Zaeed Majeed struck with his first ball Bridgepaul caught and bowled off a low full toss. Keon Lake played his shots as he tried to consolidate with wicketkeeper batsman Clifford Hamilton. But left arm orthodox H. Ramdhial disturbed Hamilton’s leg stump to continue the procession.

Hugh Craig looked solid against Ramdhial but is was Majeed with another low full toss struck to cover,       where Deonath Baksh held on after three attempts. Lake got into stride with consecutive boundaries of Ramdhial. With Skipper Prashant Nair at the other spurring him on, Lake (33) played one shot too many as he looped Majeed straight up for long off to take a simple catch. Greg Robinson looked uncomfortable at the crease as Ramdhial put him out of his misery with another one through the gates. Altantis with a meager 141 to defend in 40 overs. Bowling for MMZ Majeed among wickets no strange thing there 5/1/15/3, Islam striking the breathe out the Atlantis middle order with 8/0/31/3, Ramdhail 2/20 at the end and Kowchai with the openers 2/27.

MMZ looked confident of getting over the seemingly small total but like two weeks prior against Falcons they were made to work hard. Jacobs had Mohammed caught by Blades at cover holding on to a stinger. Baksh and Jacobs got into some good old sledging as Jacobs even used a Forward Short Leg fielder as he attacked. Baksh held his nervous amid the exchange and even came out on top as he took three boundaries to see Jacobs out of the attack after just three overs. Opener Ken Nandkumar had his own battles to deal with as pacer Greg Robinson’s leg cutters yield two maidens.

Nair replaced Jacobs as it brought immediate success as Baksh letting his guard down pulling, caught at mid wicket for a top score of 23. Robinson changed his strategy to Travis Ross as he employed the short deliveries. Ross capitalized with two boundaries, a pull to mid wicket and a hook to long leg. Ross’ whetted appetite proved his demise as he pulled Robinson to Hugh Craig running round for the square leg boundary to take complete the dismissal. Nair continued the plight as Nandkumar was caught at point four down and Altantis still in with a chance.

Veteran Ajaz Asgarally and Rawle Hoyte came to the crease with their team needing a partnership. Keon Lake had other ideas as he bowled Hoyte to avoid a repeat of the Hoyte heroics from a fortnight ago. Saud Hussain too was devoid of a repeat as he played on to Nair, bringing Majeed to the wicket. Lake sent back Asgarally to bring Kowchai to the crease. Majeed played sensibly respecting the good deliveries and pouncing on the loose one. Lake’s off break were as miser as a miser can be, as he rocked Rocky’s off stump. Islam joined Majeed and played in the same vein at his partner, but it was Majeed who lost the plight against Lake with in excess of 20 runs still needed.

With Nair’s spell completed, and Atlantis needing to use a fifth bowled, Hugh Craig was entrusted with the responsibility. Ramdhial seized the opportunity to target a cold bowler as he went for the jugular. First a maximum over mid wicket then a pull to the backward square boundary. Ramdhial heaved another one to the mid wicket boundary, where substitute fielder Jermaine Horatio held on as his motion took him over the ropes before he could release the ball. As if that did n0t serve as ample warning Ramdhial repeated the stroke but with less effect as Jacobs held on running back to give his team a narrow nine run victory. Nair pried 3/37 but is was Lake’s 8-4-6-4 that won it for Atlantis.

In other EACA results:

Big Apple ended Everest/ACS’ unbeaten run as ACS with routed for 114. Big Apple completed the victory with four wickets in hand. Long Island United CC scored 172 as Michael Noble and R. Jagnarine had four wickets each. Liberty 154 fell 18 runs short as only Andy Harricharran (53) resisted LIUCC. Hillside got to 251 as they restricted Richmond to 202 to win by 49 runs. All Stars 244 won their second game by 61 runs as Enmore could only muster 183.
