Richmond Hill C.C. continued its stellar season at top of Division I with a walk in the park over Hillside S.C. . Hillside batting first found themselves in all sorts of trouble as Richmond Hill captain Shameer Sadloo spun his web. Only Harry Heeralall 49, Syed Allie 28 and Zamal Khan 20 managed double digit scores for Hillside. Shameer’ 5/16 alongside Sudesh Dhaniram 2/12 and Kumar Nandalall 8-4-14-1 restricted Hillside to 137 in 34.2 overs. Veteran openers Debo Sankar 64* and Zaheer Sadloo 51 provided the platform for a convincing nine wicket win. Richmond Hill stay five points clear of their nearest challengers Big Apple.
Following an off-day last round Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) returned to action against fierce rivals Atlantis. Batting first MMZ without leading run-scorer Richie Sieuchan, were limp as they could only post 194 in 35.3 overs. Skipper Azurdeen Mohammed lead the way with 59, he was supported by Amarnauth Persaud 31, Rocky Kowchai 27 and Rawle Hoyte 24. Atlantis made consistent inroads avioding the development of any sizeable partnerships. Hugh Craig 3/46 was the pick of the bowlers, as five other bowlers had a wicket each. One way traffic continued till the end of the match as Nicholas Stanford 75 and Alex Amsterdam 53* combined to lead their side to a comfortable seven wicket win. Henderson Blade continued his good nick this season with a cameo of 36.
Camelot looked put in an improved performance following their drubbing at the hands of the leads. The result was much of the same as they faces American Cricket Society (ACS). Camelot looking to avoid another batting record, batted first only to succumb to the bowling brother of Saheed and Zamin Amin. Just three batsmen managed double figures as extras topscored with 43. Saheed 3/19 and Zamin 3/20 restricted Camelot to 103 in 27. overs. ACS were elated to recover of the Arsenal shock as they complete a comprehensive nine wicket win. Aun Merchant 53 and Tamesh Balwant 37 both remained unbeaten to reignite ACS’ top four campaign.
Big Apple moved into second with their win over Liberty. Atlantis are third, followed by MMZ, ACS and Arsenal are the main contenders. The table is complete by Hillside, Galaxy, Camelot and Liberty the outsiders in the race to the EACA Power 40 crown.

Liberty Sports Club was bundled out for 101 in a one-sided affair against Big Apple CC in their first Division I encounter of the 2013 EACA Power40 competition. The men in Blue won the toss and chose to bat but did not do themselves any favor after being reduced to 30 for 4 by the time Andre Kirton finished his 8 over spell on a good Bay Park playing surface. Big Apple then made light work of the paltry total, chasing it down in 14 overs and only losing 1 wicket.
The LSC top order owed the collapse to poor shot selection and consistent bowling from the BACC opening pair of Kirton and Telston Johnson. First to go was Bose Persaud (3) then Altaaf Habibulla (0) and skipper Danesh Deonarain (3) all off poorly executed shots. Dilly Khilawan (17) who was holding his end missed a full toss to get out leg before wicket. Kirton accounted for all four of the LSC bats to finish with figures of 8 overs 1 maiden 4 for 11 runs.
The out of form Marlon Persaud was the only batsman on show who looked the part, he contributed 20 runs but fell to Johnson in the closing overs of the game looking to accumulate a respectable total. Thakur Singh (10) and Tooneshwar Kristona (11) added some vital runs in the end when it appeared as if LSC was going to be bowled out for under 75.
Big Apple went about the chase with intent. Former West Indies batsman, Richard Ramdeen, struck 6 fours and 1 six for his 35 before he was bowled by Marlon Persaud. Skipper, Zaheer Saffie (33*), joined Mark Gomes (25*) to see the total off with no major concerns in the 14th over.
Liberty SC will do battle this weekend against their Division 1 cellar dweller companions Camelot/Rebellious Stars CC at the popular Baisley

EACA Power 40 Zonal Phase Round up
by Dyon Ravello
Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) met Big Apple on July 7th their best competition to date. Batting first Big Apple were lead by skipper Zaheer Saffie 71 along with cameos from R Ramdeen 31, Clain Willams 30, and Alexandrino Kirton 30, posting 231/9. Zaieed Majeed 2/26 and Rocky Kowchai 2/51 tried their best to keep the run flow in check. MMZ got off to a brilliant start with captain Azurdeen Mohammed 37 and Richie Seiuchan 68. But after the opening pair only Chad Munroe 20 managed double figures. Saffie completed a superb all-rounder performance at he scalped 5/20 to wreck MMZ. Shaun Thompson had 2/41 as MMZ crashed to 156 all out in 35 overs, putting an end to their 100 percent record.
Eastside Warriors sprung the upset of the final zonal round as they chased 261 to beat Liberty by five wickets. Liberty batting first posted 260/9, Bose Persaud 53, Thakur Singh 48*, and Terrence Madramootoo 43 provided the impetus for the Blue Nation. For the Warriors, F Ahmed 3/36, K Naseem 3/58 and S Ishfaq 2/50 ensured a constant procession of blue from the middle to the huddle. Liberty needed a win to confirm their place in the top flight, but Eastside were determined not to offer an easy way through . Warriors made goosebumps of blue as they successfully completed their chase. A Qadeer batted through the innings as he remained unbeaten on 130, A Murtaza 34 and Ahmed 32* provided ample support. The Blue Nation were liberated by a better run rate as they ended on 17 points alongside the Warriors.
Richmond Hill maintained their unbeaten run to remain the only side without blemish going into Divisional play. Richmond Hill left Victory win-less this term as they restricted the cellar side to 126 in 36.2 overs. Only D Raval 39 offered any resistance. Kumar Nandalall 3/17, Ramphal Bactowar 2/14 and Sudesh Dhaniram 2/27 all combined to stifle the run flow. Dhaniram returned to lead his side with an unbeaten 74 to complete the seven wicket win. Richmond Hill move on to Division I at the top of the table with 37 points.
American Cricket Society (ACS) continued their good run of form as they turned back Atlantis for the fourth time in as many matches. Batting first ACS posted 264/7 with contributions from Tamesh Balwant 50, Dwayne Smith 47* and Aun Merchant 39. For Atlantis Jason Greaves had 2/41 and Keon Lake 2/52 had the best bowling returns. At the crease Atlantis were dented by early strikes from Saheed Amin 3/54 and Trevor Walke 1/35. Greaves 48, Alex Amsterdam 35 and Ron Andrew 30 made a game of the chase. At 31.2 over ACS completed a 76 run victory as Atlantis with bowled out for 188. Both sides move on to Division I beginning this Sunday 7/14.
In other results Enmore lost to All Stars, conceding five valuable points as both team will contest Division II. In Zone I Falcons managed their first win this term to keep Phantom in search of that elusive victory. Camelot earned a brace against Long Island United and coupled with Centurion’s defeat at the hand of Arsenal, Camelot were able to sneaked into the top flight.

Following a promising performance at the Champions Trophy West Indies did in Jamaica what every fan of the maroon clad dream of by winning their first two matches at Sabina. The Windies fell from grace somewhere in flight en-route to Port of Spain. From 2-0 in Jamaica to 2-2 at Queens Park. This very mercurial cricket is the main reason for the once unbeatable side now being placed outside of the Test elite.
An analysis of the 14 who have been employed in this West “Indian” Tri-series home away from home. At the top Chris Gayle’s 109 in game one was 12 months overdue following that he was lethargic as his foot movement getting to the three deliveries that dismissed him outside the off stump. Chris’ 109 is his insurance policy going into the Pakistan series, where we expect him to renew on a consistent basis, because like in Australia whether its called a rest, a drop, a sick or an injury his place is not guaranteed . Only performance guarantees a place like Kemar Roach saw after dropping Dhawan in England he was relegated due to “illness” since then Roach has been putting in his work with the ball and has corrected any faults in the field and he has even contributed with the bat when it mattered. Roach should comfortably continue to lead the bowling attack against the Pakistanis barring any genuine injury.
Johnson Charles like Gayle played his guarantee in game two following a sedate yet significant showing in game one. As the party shifted south Charles too has slumped. As wicketkeeper during the Champions Trophy he looked sharp placing much needed pressure on Denesh Ramdin to perform. With an added weapon to the armory only inconsistent can deprive Charles retaining his spot for the foreseeable future. As for Ramdin he has seemed to have found himself in that dark place once more. The place from which he had stored up premeditated retaliation for Viv once he had tasted success again. The stern suspension served during the Champions Trophy magnified Ramdin’s plummett which had began during the Regional 4-day tournament earlier in the year. Caught between a bunch of power hitters and the tail Ramdin seems confused as to what is his role with the bat. With Charles being a fill-in at the moment despite a decent showing Denesh may need to have some time at the drawing board to redefine purpose. After all the best of us need rest, which will give Charles an extend run as the gloveman or offer Lendl Simmons another platform to reassert himself. Simmons has kept wicket in the past and his showing on Monday should keep him in the mind of the selector at least till the CPL.
Devon Smith was rewarded for a stellar Regional season disposing of Kieran Powell in what had been a compact unit till now. But like the leg before decisions to the spinners of 2011 the seamers of 2013 have employed a similar tactic which may well put an end to the Devon Smith era, especially with Mohammed Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal waiting in the wings to prey on his prodding pads. Six months ago it was 2012, now we are half way through 2013 Marlon Samuels! Like the opening pair Samuels has some rope left but he will have some weaving to do before the CPL fanfare begins. In today’s cricket name and past performance are negligible, hard earned dogged performance on a consistent basis is what counts. Darren Bravo has shown that only time at the crease can bring you runs. Good old test cricket if you must, maybe for the first 30 overs and then on the the party of Twenty20. Darren Bravo has showed the application and consistency which has been lacking in those around him.
From Lil Bravo to the skipper, Dwayne’s exploits in Twenty20 with the ball has deflated his batting form. Like Ramdin the captain seems clueless whether to build an inning or blast away. Yes his bowling is keeping him in the game but big “O” would much rather have the skipper anchoring at 5 or 6 to provide the launch pad for Sammy, Polly and Co. As for his bowling it remains effective but not as incisive as we have seen in the shortest version, the best of Dwayne Bravo has always been a batting all-rounder. Looking at acting-Captain Kieron Pollard, during the IPL and even on that crucial and eventual final ball at the Champions Trophy, Pollard has continued to play loosely outside the off stump. Not just on deliveries where he had been dismissed but in general Pollard has played some needless strokes at balls he was not to the pitch of outside off. With all the Global-trotting a sabbatical seems overdue. That will definitely add to the visions of rotation policy which has now taken up stead in the international game. Narsingh Deonarine looks in good form following his stint with the A team. Darren Sammy has shown that he can deliver with either bat or ball and for these attributes he is invaluable to the team. Nonetheless more consistent performances as a bowling all-rounder will definitely augur well for the squad.
On too the bowlers Sunil Narine has been lean since Kolkata Knight Riders exited ipl6, he too seems to be winded by all the frequent flyer miles. With Samuels and possibly Deonarine as an additional spinner should serve well taking some pressure of the Trinidadian ace. Nikita Miller for all his efforts this season and seasons past looks deserved of a recall. With little word on Ravi Rampaul their seems to be little support for Roach. Jason Holder has not grabbed at his chance like Tino Best did at his second coming and so too Best has been more discipline yet relatively unpentrative. Sheldon Cottrell, Delron Johnson and Shannon Gabriel may be more keen as they look to propel their careers.
Possible Squad v. Pakistan: Dwayne Bravo (Captain) Chris Gayle, Johnson Charles, Lendl Simmons, Marlon Samuels, Darren Bravo, Narsingh Deonarine, Daren Sammy, Sunil Narine, Kemar Roach, Tino Best, Jason Holder, and Nikita Miller/Ravi Rampaul
